Kindness wins day for Mason

- Gary Fanning

Cumock Academy this week praised their first year pupil Mason Kidd.

The youngster was delighted to win both the Young Citizen of the Year award and Citizen of the Year on a very special night at Dumfries House last month.

Mason was joined by his family, special representatives from the Cumnock community,

Provost Jim Todd and East Ayrhsire Council chief executive Fiona Lees.

In the picture Mason is accompanied by Cumnock Academy depute head Mr. Kyle, Principal Teacher of music Mrs McGuire and talented musicians Hope Smith, Morgan Heron, Beth Senior and Kiera Christison who provided the wonderful entertainment on the night.

The school would like to congratulate Mason on a fantastic achievement.

Mason carried out 18 acts of kindness in memory of his brother Ross who died aged two of cancer.

Ross would have been 18 on December 1 and since March 2017 Mason, who has autism, has taken pizzas to Cumnock fire station, treated Cumnock police to doughnuts, left tennis balls in the park in Cumnock for dog walkers and their pets, and bought teddies for the babies at Ayrshire Maternity Neonatal Unit.

Mason’s 18th act of kindness was to raise as much money as he could in November for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity – he raised over £ 10,000. He was runner up in the Robert Burns Humanitarian Award.
