Leader’s ‘ breach of trust’

-

A packed Town Hall on Wednesday 18 heard speakers and objectors, articulate all, challenge the council’s deeply flawed Riverside proposals. No voice was raised in favour of the plans - except one.

Somewhat surprisingly the council leader chose to address the meeting.

From his defensive comments it is safe to assume he will be whipping his colleagues on the planning committee to er...... pass their own plans. No really.

His long ramble on things that may or may not come to pass - presented as jam tomorrow - was a politician’s master class in obfuscation.

To paraphrase, it was a plea from the council leader to “trust us”.

Sorry Mr Campbell the fact that you are persisting with this plan at all in the face of unprecedented opposition from the community and national bodies, and most importantly in breach of your own so called master plan is in and of itself a breach of trust.

You should resign now.

Some may know the minor classic “The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist” by Robert Tressel in which the abject poor and hungry are expected to rejoice unconditionally in the expensive building of the new grand town hall.

Life does not have to imitate art. Whatever eventually fills the Riverside site it most certainly should NOT be for a self serving council or its employees. John Dunlop
