Tri club stars in the Galashiels Sprint

-

Five members of Ayrodynamic TRI club travelled to the Scottish Borders to take part in the Galashiels Sprint Triathlon last weekend.

The event is the first of a series of races in the scenic hills and valleys of the area, and on this occasion the participants were met with unusually kind weather.

First in action was club junior woman Abbie Middleton, who took on the Youth Triathlon.

Abbie, who is an extremely promising athlete, underlined that by winning her category ( 15- 16), beating not only her fellow females, but the males too.

Second up was Jen Murray who tackled the rolling hills in the Come and Tri race, finishing 13th in the female field.

In the pool based Sprint Triathlon, first across the finish line was Stewart McKinstray, who completed the tough event in 1 hour 16 minutes, to take 26th position overall.

Next home was vintage veteran ( 60 and over) Grant Young in 1 hour and 19 minutes, giving him 39 th overall and second in his category.

Tracey Middleton made sure that daughter Abbie did not get all the glory by completing the race in 1 hour 28 minutes, taking second place in the supervet ( 50 plus) category to complete a successful outing for the club.

This weekend saw the first of Ayrodynamic’s host race’s get underway for 2018 with the 3- Castles Duathlon.

The wet, cold and somewhat miserable conditions did not deter the athletes who started with a 5km run out and back past Greenan Castle, then 27km cycle south along the spectacular Ayrshire coastline before completing the 5km run section again.

With a large number of club member volunteering with marshaling duties, Alan Waddington ( super vet) held up the fort on the racing front finishing in 2: 08: 53 and 10th in his age category.
