Kind souls pitch into help complete retreat
They say that teamwork makes the dream work and this group of kind souls are certainly working towards that.
Several volunteers donated their time to help decorate the soon-to-be opened Whiteleys Retreat as part of the charity’s DIY SOS appeal.
A sunny spring weekend welcomed scores of helpers last month looking to lend a hand and pitch in for a good cause.
Whiteleys Retreat will offer short therapeutic breaks to children, young people and their families with cancer and lifealtering illnesses across the UK.
The charity’s DIY appeal struck a chord with many throughout Ayrshire, with help from: Showhouse Decorators, Hugh Strain & Son, the Painting and Decorating department of Ayr Campus, Ayrshire College and even MP Bill Grant.
And time and tools weren’t all that was donated over the hands on weekend but some tasty snacks from the Poet’s Corner, Ayr United and pizza from Dominos.
The charity’s CEO, Maxine Allan, said: “It was absoulutely mobbed – we had people from all over the place.
“We got a huge amount of work done and got it to the next level which is fantastic.
“And on the Saturday our five alpacas arrived for our animal therapy that we’ll do with families.
“Basically the kids will have the chance to walk them around the acres and feed them so that’ll be lovely.
“So thank you to everyone involved – it really was amazing.”
