Troon Ladies end season on a high

-

Troon Ladies 1s welcomed Hillhead Ladies 3s to a sunny and warm Troon on Saturday for their final match of the season.

The 1s produced an outstanding performance against a strong Hillhead side that pushed hard from the start of the game, both sides seeking a positive end to their season.

After resisting a series of quick breaks through Troon’s defence by Hillhead, the 1s settled into a strong high press.

While this tactic left them open to Hillhead’s fast paced breaks, Troon was able to turn these away, leaving their opposition unable to gain any advantage in the D.

Troon’s pressure tactics paid off part way through the first half when Kathryn Barr beat the Hillhead keeper with a well-placed chip rocketing into the net just shy of the far post.

The second half started in the same pattern with Lisa MacDonald scoring from a strong strike from the top of the D, putting Troon two points clear.

Hillhead continued to fight back throughout, repeatedly driving down the left wing and into the far corner to put pressure on the defense.

This secured Hillhead a series of opportunities in Troon’s D including a string of short corners that they then failed to convert and several well-placed balls that skimmed across the front of the goal.

In the end, Hillhead were unable to find the back of Troon’s net, and the 2-0 win was a confident end to a strong season for the Ladies 1s.

This places them fourth in Women’s West District Division 2, a strong position to build from for the team next season.

Despite several other opportunities on both goals for each team, the half time score remained unchanged at 1-0 with everything still to play for.
