Carrick club makes history after they secure BT National trophy for the third year in a row
Eight years ago, they were on the verge of folding.
Now Carrick Rugby Club are celebrating a history making treble by winning the BT National Shield for the third year in a row.
Seven busloads of Carrick supporters made the journey to Murrayfield in high spirits and full of optimism.
The team did not let them down playing the high tempo, skillful rugby that has been their hallmark throughout the season.
The Maybole marvels sparked wild scenes of jubilation after beating Hawick Harlequins 3919 on Saturday.
Man of the match Callum Smith gave Carrick an early lead with a converted try but Hawick hit back to lead 12-7 at the break.
Tries from Aiden Strachan and Lewis Clark in the opening 10 minutes of the second period turned the tables and put Carrick in charge.
Kyle Johnson kicked a penalty to stretch the lead.
Hawick pulled back a try but Clark pounced on an interception to score beneath the posts.
Despite losing a man to the sinbin, Carrick couldn’t be stopped and Blair Cooper dashed down the wing to add the final try.
Carrick now turn their attention to West League One where they lead second placed Allan Glen’s by two points and with a a game in hand.
On Saturday, they head to Greenock before closing against Allan Glen’s (away) and Annan (home).
