Enjoy Jurassic japes with the Funbox crew

- Lochlin Highet

Get ready for some Stone Age singalong silliness at the Palace Theatre on Saturday, May 5, as Anya, Kevin, Gary and Bonzo (formerly of The Singing Kettle) go on their most roarsome adventure in Kilmarnock yet – Dinosaur Safari.

In the three years since their first show, the Funbox gang have been pirates, princesses, superheroes and a variety of underwater sea creatures to name a few guises. Things are looking safari-so-good for the trio this year as they slip into some scales and invite you to join in the Jurassic japes in their new dinosaur themed show.

“We are really looking forward to getting Dinosaur Safari on the road,” said Anya. “There’s lots of surprises in this show and we’ve had lots of fun playing dino-explorers already.”

It seems like fun is the operative word in Funbox, as the gang can barely hide the excitement and love they have of performing.

“We get to act like kids all day, who wouldn’t love to make a living out of that?” said Kevin. “During the

week there’s lots of what we call the ‘boring grown up stuff ’ for the day to day running of the business, but as soon as the weekend hits and we’re performing it’s like having a second childhood all over again!”

Funbox is the brainchild of Gary Coupland, Anya Scott-Rodgers and Kevin Macleod, who since starting out in 2015 have gone from strength to strength, quickly becoming firm family favourites.

Funbox offers the same traditional songs and silliness known and loved by many but with their own brand of manic humour and a modern twist.

“We’ve been described as fresh as and edgier than before and the whole family is getting involved. We even had a few grown-up dinosaurs at our Glasgow SEC DVD recording of the show back in February!” laughs Gary, who was the Singing Kettle’s music man for 32 years before Funbox was born.

The Funbox gang are in a prehistoric pickle as they go on a quest to find their keys and discover different Dino-pals. Along the way they meet friends old (some very old!) and new including those fuzzy Funsters Fluffy and Flossie, and their cheeky chum Bonzo who is finding his inner cave dog and hunting the ultimate bone!

Packed with singalong favourites like ‘The Bear Came Over the Mountain’, ‘Knick Knack Paddy Whack’ and ‘Eye, Nose, Cheeky, Cheeky, Chin’, as well as brand new songs, the show is a gigantic treat for all the family.

Dinosaur Safari is at the Palace Theatre, Kilmarnock, on Saturday, May 5, with shows at 1pm and 3.30pm.

Tickets are on sale now from 01563 554900 or from eastayrshireleisure. com and Ticketmaster.
