The couple

Zara D’Amico, 44, married 42-year-old former solider now truck driver Pete Hay.

The couple have four children; Jamie, 21, Alize, 18, Steven, 17 and Ty, 11. They all live in Monkton.

Their story

Zara and Pete’s story is one of rekindling and not letting true love stand in their way after they were reunited in 2016.

Zara explained:“Although we didn’t see each other any more I stayed in touch with Pete’s family and in June 2016, his sister Catherine played a pivotal role in reconnecting us.

“We started texting again every opportunity we got and in August we became a couple.

“On November 5 at a Queen Experience concert, Pete proposed to me.

“It might seem quick to some but as Pete said when he proposed, too many years between us had been lost and he didn’t want to waste another minute.

“The rest, as they say, is history!”

The wedding

Zara and Pete got married at the Savoy Park Hotel in Ayr on Sunday, September 3 last year.

“We had planned on having our ceremony in the beautiful gardens under the arch but the typical Scottish weather let us down,”said Zara.

“The ceremony was beautiful and despite a hiccup we can honestly say we wouldn’t have changed a thing about it.

“We enjoyed a lovely meal with our guests, laughed at the speeches, then enjoyed our evening reception, cake cutting and first dance.

“It was a truly amazing time with our loved ones and we wish we could relive it every day.”

Attire

The kilts were from Slaters Menswear with the exception of groom Pete who had his made.

Zara added:“It was Help for Heroes tartan which is a charity close to our hearts as Pete is an ex soldier.”

The bride wore a stunning wedding dress from Gillian’s Bridals in Renfrew.

Daughter and bridesmaid Alize D’Amico wore a Jenny Packham dress with flower girls wearing JD Williams.
