Residents slam RBS mobile bank service

Mystery over time and day as to when it will roll in

- Gary Fanning

Residents have branded Royal Bank of Scotland’s mobile bank service a “disgrace”.

They hit out the RBS mobile bank that comes to Cumnock every week. Customers are left in the dark on what time or day of the week that it rolls into town. Now Cumnock Community Council are set to write to bank chiefs over the issue. One community councillor said: “I called them and I think I got through to somewhere like India and they said they don’t have a bank in Cumnock. “They should put a notice up on the former bank saying when the mobile bank will come and what time.” The community councillor said he would write to them replacing the stain glass window in the old bank that closed in October 2016 at the same time as other branches in Troon, Prestwick, Girvan and Mauchline. He said: “They should put up a notice there saying when the mobile bank is there.” The bank at the time claimed the move was because more customers had switched online. Another community councillor said: “The RBS mobile bank comes every week and it is hard to get into it . “There is no privacy in it. “You can hear everyone’s business. “It is a total disgrace and if it is raining it is soaking wet trying to get in.” RBS have made a whopping £ 792m in the first three months of this year alone, more than three times the previous year Jeane Freeman, MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley said: “The provision of these wholly inadequate mobile banks are in no way a suitable alternative to previous branch network. “These aren’t easily accessible, visit areas infrequently and can be delayed by traffic and some customers can be left queuing in a public car park exposed to the elements in full view of the public which does raise serious security concerns which I have raised with the police. “I have raised these matters many times with RBS at the highest level and each time have received a completely pathetic response from the Bank’s management who should stop boasting about this inadequate alternative and show some respect for the customers whose hard earned money the bank relies on. “To treat its loyal customers like this is nothing short of a disgrace which is why I have written to the Equality and Human Rights Commission in conjunction with Scottish Rural Action and Disability Equality Scotland raising the concerns I have with this vans.” RBS declined to comment as the Ayrshire Post reached its deadline.
