Old boss bids to down high- flyers

Girvan boss Dinwoodie heads back to Craigmark

- Lochlin Highet

Lawrie Dinwoodie heads back to his old stomping ground as his Girvan side take on highflying Craigmark Burntonians on Saturday.

The sides will square off in the third round of the West of Scotland Cup. And Dinwoodie, who was boss at Craigmark for five years, knows it won’t be an easy game. He said: “It will be a tough game as Craigmark are flying just now. “It’s my home team, so I love seeing them do well - obviously not on Saturday, though. “It’s a great club - and I am delighted they are doing well.” Girvan fell to a narrow 1- 0 defeat to league leaders Beith on Saturday. Dinwoodie said: “We played well and got the ball down in the second half. With about 15 minutes to go we had a great chance; Michael Reilly was about five yards out and put the ball over the bar. “We had one real chance, as did they - but they took it and that’s the difference. I was really pleased with how we played.” Girvan will host Auchinleck as they bid to lift themselves off bottom place. Dinwoodie added: “We have got a hard run- in so it won’t be easy. “The boys are playing well enough, but the difference in this league is that the big sides take their chances.” HURLFORD rounded off a decent week with a 3- 3 draw with Pollok - and they host Kilbirnie in the league tonight ( Wednesday), before visiting IRVINE MEADOW in the West of Scotland Cup on Saturday. CUMNOCK defeated rivals Glenafton 1- 0 in the Ayrshire Cup thanks to a Paul Burns winner. Manager, Peter Leonard, said: “It was a great win. I don’t know why but we have played Glenafton three times in about six weeks and won them all. We were very compact and organised, and I think we deserved the win.” Cumnock will head to Clydebank on Saturday in the third round of the West of Scotland Cup. Ahead of the tie, Leonard said: “It’s a good distraction from the league as we are all but safe now. “Clydebank won’t be an easy game as they are great at home. “But we have had four clean sheets in the last five games which is positive.” TROON won 2- 0 away to Shettleston on Saturday with goals from defenders Dean Keenan and David Syme.” The Portland Parkers will host AUCHINLECK in the West of Scotland Cup on Saturday. Kirkwood said: “There’s zero pressure on us for that game, it’s all on them - it will be a good relief though. WHITLETTS will host SALTCOATS tonight, before travelling to Shotts in the West of Scotland Cup on Saturday. CRAIGMARK will host LUGAR tonight, and Lugar head to IRVINE VICS on Saturday. MUIRKIRK travel to DALRY tonight before hosting MAYBOLE on Saturday. ANNBANK head to Dalry on Saturday.
