Warning on roadworks
Commuters face traffic chaos this weekend on the A77 outside Ayr.
Scotland TranServ will resurface 1.9 kilometres of the A77 at Symington between the Dutch House Roundabout and Bellfield Interchange.
As part of the £ 340,000 project, the carriageway will be closed from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Monday.
Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s principal design engineer, said: “In order to reduce the impact on local commuters and businesses in this part of Ayrshire, we have scheduled these works for over the weekend.
“Because of the depth of the resurfacing project, and to protect the health and safety of our workers and the travelling public, it will be necessary to close the carriageway in this area.”
Signed diversions will be in place throughout the works, with special arrangements made for emergency service vehicles. Southbound traffic will not be affected.
The diversion route will include:
Northbound traffic will be diverted off the A77 at Dutch House Roundabout, heading west to Monktonhead Roundabout.
At Monktonhead Roundabout traffic will be diverted north on the A78 to the Warrix Interchange
Traffic will then travel east on the A71 to re- join the A77 at Bellfield Interchange
Drivers are urged to plan their journeys with these works in mind and to add some additional journey time, particularly those heading for Prestwick Airport.
This is the latest in a series of projects that Scotland TranServ has delivered on behalf of Transport Scotland to improve the road surface quality of the A77.
Andy Fraser, Scotland TranServ’s Operating Company Representative, said the A77 is an important economic artery for south- west Scotland.
“That is why we have scheduled this significant programme of work to be delivered with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption,” he added.
