Talk of the town from our social media

-

We told that a fed- up resident had hit out at Ayr Racecourse over their ‘ mess’ in the area.

Martin Duffy said: “What about you’re neighbours up the road smoking there own fish and discarding the remains into the racecourse?”

To which Christine Steel replied: “That was happening when I stayed in Dunlop Terrace years ago.

“It was stinking and I had to keep my dog on the lead as he’d either roll in it or eat it and be ill.”

Dave Bear said: “They are obviously trying to improve the track hence why this area is left like this.

“It has always been like this. “Even when I was a kid that area was used for storage of materials!”

University chiefs are to insert a massive sell- on clause in a multi- million pound deal with South Ayrshire Council.

Billy Farquhar said: “I hope they will upgrade the roads around it – it’s mayhem already.”

Steven Mackie said: “I think we need to do something about the ongoing projects first before starting new projects.

“It’s not exactly important for that sports hub when there’s more important stuff that the money could be used for right now.”

Rita Nicol said: “It is a good deal all around, for the council and the university.”

Plans for a controversial new council office block in Ayr High Street have been sensationally booted out by councillors last Wednesday.

Sandra Murphy said: “Spend money on investment in the town to attract tourists etc it needs it.”

Lorna Mccluskie said: “Great news, so what is going to happen to the site then.”

Patricia Workman said: “Good, it’s about time they listened to the people.”

Darren Ravie said: “Bet the land will sit vacant for years.”

Paul Cairns said: “Has anyone ever suggested the Station Hotel as an alternative site?”

Nikki Brocklebank responded: “It’s been suggested quite a lot on the Ayrshire Post’s Facebook page by quite a few folk, me included, but the main problem is that it’s privately owned.

“I’ve always thought the council could be more robust in their discussions with the owner re deadlines for making the building sound, failing which they could make a compulsory buy back.”

Richard Devine added: “It would cost two or even three times as much money to restore the Station Hotel than build a new structure.

“It will cost at least a million pounds to clear it and remove pests and the excrement they leave.”
