Generation Z offers free fun
There will be loads going on for young people on Saturday, May 19, as GENERATION Z is launched at the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock, offering a host of exciting, free drop- in activities.
Part of a co- designed programme of events throughout the year as part of Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018, the launch event will feature Tom Foster of Judge Dredd fame, who will be doing demonstrations and book signings; fully immersive Virtual Reality experiences in association with Utopia Computers, a FIFA tournament plus games consoles sponsored by Game Centre, comic and Pop Art styled body painting and comic themed screen printing.
There will also be a DJ and a superhero photobooth on site.
The event will act as a launchpad for the Generation Z Awards for Young Artist, Filmmaker and Writer of the Year, which will be hosted by the Dick Institute later this year, and full details on age categories and how to enter will be available on the day.
In addition, The Travelling Gallery will be situated outside the Dick Institute on the day, where you can view its latest exhibition, entitled Are Teenage Dreams So Hard to Beat?
In partnership with the Museum of Childhood, Edinburgh, the exhibition will explore our formative years, as contemporary artists exhibit their work alongside teenage archives from yesteryears.
GENERATION Z is brought to you by young people in East Ayrshire in collaboration with East Ayrshire Leisure and is funded by the Year of Young People 2018 event fund, managed by EventScotland, part of VisitScotland’s Events Directorate.
In 2018, Scotland puts its young people in the spotlight, celebrating their talents, contributions and creating new opportunities for them to shine.
The Year of Young People 2018 is a year- long programme of events and activities that will give young people in Scotland the opportunity to show the world what they are made of.
The GENERATION Z launch event runs from noon to 4pm and is free to attend.
