Troon Street Market has been axed for good - because the operator doesn’t think it is safe.

It follows a woman stallholder being battered on the head with part of her stall during high winds.

Just last week it was claimed the market would take place outside the town hall after a wrangle over cash was apparently resolved.

Ironically weather conditions have been benign for several months.

However, Donna Read of Troon Business Association, said: “Following a full risk assessment by the market company they have decided with regret that the Troon Street Market as an outdoor market is unable to continue.

“They have looked at many other possible locations but sadly there is nothing that provides enough shelter in Troon. The market company will consult with traders about moving the market indoors and if there is enough support they will look from July onwards.”
