a thief who nicked a kitchen knife from an ayr store was caught on CCtV.

tommy Caddis has been ordered to adhere to a drug testing treatment order (DttO) after admitting nicking the blade from tK Maxx on Valentines Day.

Caddis, 35, also pled guilty to having an article which had a blade or was sharply pointed.

ayr sheriff Court heard how Caddis was spotted on CCtV cameras browsing in the kitchen section of tK Maxx.

Footage showed him picking up a knife and concealing under his top.

Depute fiscal Hayley Robertson said police officers searched him. the blade was found tucked into the waistband of his trousers.

solicitor steven Maxwell, defending Caddis, said the matter was“serious because of his record.”

He told the court Caddis was on heroin substitute – methadone.

the Kilmarnock prisoner committed the offence while he was on bail.

sheriff scott pattison said Caddis had a criminal record for offences of dishonesty.

the sheriff said:“I’m going to give you the benefit of a DttO, which will last for two years.”

Describing the DDtO as a“privilige,” the sheriff added:“We have seen people change their lives on these orders and get free from drugs and build a platform for moving forward.”
