Guy takes Opp of flying Ayrshire visit

-

A top government minister has visited Ayrshire to talk jobs and pensions.

Guy Opperman was accompanied on his trip to Ayr by former fireman and local MP, Bill Grant.

The pair stopped by Ayrshire Jobcentre Plus to meet with staff on a whistlestop tour.

Mr Opperman said: “It was a pleasure to meet the fantastic, hard-working staff who are dedicated to this town, and find out about some of the valuable sessions work coaches are running for older workers, offering additional support to find work.

“I was truly impressed by the commitment to social mobility, retraining and opportunities that the work coaches at the JCP clearly have.

“Locally, retail jobs, alongside those in the aviation and hospitality industries, contribute to an improving picture nationally, with unemployment in Scotland down by another 6000 people according to the latest figures.”

More than 7000 people have been automatically enrolled into a workplace pension in Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock.

Bill added: “It was a pleasure to welcome Guy, who enjoyed his time with us.”

A Q&A with Tory party activisits was also held as part of the trip.
