Warters shines for Ayr Roads

Last Sunday saw Ayr Roads Harry Fairbairn club member Mark Warters participat­e in the Scottish National 25 mile time trial championsh­ip - this was hosted by Forfar and Dundee Thistle Road Club.

Mark had an impressive ride recording a time of 54 minutes, eight seconds, which was a personal best, placing him 32nd overall.

The fastest Ayrshire rider in the event was Mark Skilling of CCC, with another fine ride finishing in a time of 52 minutes, 43 seconds. Kyle Gordon, team RT23, better known for his track appearance in the Commonweal­th Games, won the senior National title with a time of 48 minutes 38 seconds.

A new record was set in the woman’s race by Vicky Smith (AeroCoach), who won her race by over three minutes in a time of 54 minutes 52 seconds.

The midweek bunch headed out by Loans to Monkton, then onto Mauchline and Catrine reaching Cronberry before heading back by Skares and Tarbolton – 52 miles in total.

Thursday night saw 12 members compete at the weekly 10 mile time trial, on the A78 course.

Two personal were recorded on a night which proved to be tougher than expected. Gordon Fields 27.46; Archie Arthur 26.51; Aileen Fisher 25.55; Andrew Conway 27.34; Duncan McArthur 24.09; John Gemmell 25.37; Jody Gerrard 24.38; Harry Brawley 23.08; Toni McIntosh 25.03; Scott Knox 23.10; Craig Allison 22.35; Calum MacDonald 21.30.

The Sunday run continued to enjoy this glorious spell of weather and headed out by Holmston to Coylton, Sinclairst­on, Benson Smiddy, Auchinleck, Mauchline and home by Tarbolton and Monkton.
