A sandcastle competitio­n is a new addition to Troon Gala on Saturday June 23.

Troon Community Council chairman Helen Duff revealed the news last week and said: “We still need helpers for the gala day so please get in touch if you can lend a hand.”

World renowned organist Professor Ian Tracey of Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral will perform a recital at Our Lady of the Assumption and St Meddan’s RC Church Troon on Friday June 22 at 7.30pm.

Professor Tracey came to the church shortly after the new Johannus Ecclesia D- 470 organ was installed and spent a day voicing the instrument to suit the specific acoustic profile of the listed church.

Professor Tracey broadcasts frequently with the BBC; he holds fellowship­s from prestigiou­s institutio­ns both in the UK and abroad. Tickets £ 5 from Words & Music and the church.

Blood donations can be given at Troon Concert Hall on June 27 in the afternoon or 5pm- 7.30pm. On Thursday, June 28 donations can be given at Muirhead Activity Centre, Central Avenue from 2pm - 3.30pm and 5pm- 7.30pm.

Summer Touch Rugby – Family touch rugby sessions have resumed on Friday evenings at Fullarton. All ages and abilities from 6 to 60+ are welcome to attend. The club Bar will be open for refreshmen­ts.

Troon Community Council’s 73 rd Annual Taxis Outing to Troon will be held today, Wednesday June

20. It is expected that 150 decorated taxis will enter Troon and reach Barassie Street and Portland Street by 1pm. The parade will be led by Glasgow Police Scottish Pipe Band and will be welcomed at the Town Hall by Provost Helen Moonie, local councillor­s and the Gala Queen and Princess.

Troon OIR are holding film shows throughout the summer months. The films are shown in Portland Church Hall at 2pm. “Sully” will be shown on Wednesday June 27. A donation of £ 2 covers costs and refreshmen­ts.

Troon Arthritis Group’s ( TAG) Mystery Coach Trip on Wednesday June 27 leaves Ivy Cottage at 12.30pm prompt. There is no July meeting and the new session starts on August 22 in St Meddan’s Church Hall.

Consultati­on is complete on whether to ditch the existing roundabout on Kilmarnock Road, Barassie, and abandon plans to build two more for housing access on the new estates.

Councillor Bob Pollock told Troon Community Council: “I am waiting for the results. Some folk are saying you must save the roundabout and others you must get rid of this monstrosit­y and bring in traffic lights.

“You are not going to satisfy everybody. Councillor­s will make a decision but my personal view is that we should go with the majority, even if it is only one.”
