Holiday lunch

-

A primary School in Maybole will run a summer holiday lunch programme.

Cairn Primary and Barassie primaries ran successful lunch programmes during the Easter break.

Throughout the summer holidays, children will be able to go to Barassie and Cairn on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between noon and 2pm.

As well as receiving a healthy lunch they can also take part in fun activities run by parents and council staff.

Council leader Douglas Campbell said this week: “We are delivering services where there is greatest need and our holiday lunch programme is an excellent example of this approach.

“Feedback has been very positive so we are now looking to support families in Barassie and Maybole as well as those in Girvan and north Ayr this summer.

“We don’t want children to miss out on meals so this is a great way to ensure they continue to eat well through the holidays, make new friends and stay active.”

Following the successful pilot last year which saw over 7500 free healthy lunches distributed, the council has been working with partners to expand the initiative.

The decision was also taken to continue to work with partners delivering free lunches and activities in Girvan and north Ayr.

In Girvan, partners Glendoune Community Association, Girvan Youth Trust and the Community Sports Hub will help to deliver lunches four days a week.

While in north Ayr the initiative will continue to run five days a week in partnership with Lochside Mission and a number of other groups.
