Football tourney has point to make
Pupils join ‘ No Knives Better Lives’ campaign
Auchinleck Academy pupils enjoyed the NKBL ( No Knives Better Lives) football tournament at Doon Academy recently.
They were accompanied to the tournament by campus cop PC Baillie and Active Schools co- ordinator Barry Holmes.
Auchinleck Academy will be staging the musical “Hairspray” from June 19- 21.
Pupils can buy tickets from the Business Studies department and parents can buy them from the main office.
On Friday, June 8, all S3 pupils took part in a Natural Disasters interdisciplinary task.
Pupils had been learning about hurricanes and their impact on the environment in social subjects.
They spent the day on various activities looking at how to survive and rebuild surroundings after a hurricane.
The activities gave pupils the opportunity to develop a number of different skills including team building, problem solving, communication, creativity and much more.
Auchinleck Academy went on a rugby tour to Barcelona and Salou.
It was a 4am meet on Tuesday June 5 for the bus journey to Glasgow Airport.
Eighteen S3- 4 boys and three staff made up the touring party.
After a three- hour flight to Barcelona, the touring party was met at the airport and transferred to Salou.
Day two on tour saw the group play mini- golf in Salou with Andrew Rodger winning the tour party tournament with an impressive four under par.
It was then back to the hotel for lunch and the transfer to Barcelona for a visit to the famous Las Ramblas then on to the first game at Sant Cugat.
Sant Cugat Rugby Club are current Spanish champions and they showed their class early on scoring some very impressive tries and it resulted in a score of 43- 10 to the Spaniards.
Standout performers were Jamie Kennedy and Lewis Young in the second half.
Day three was a whole day at Port Aventura Theme Park.
Highlights were the Dragon Chan and the Shambala rollercoasters as well as the teacups for Kerr Robson.
Day four saw the group spend the morning at the beach before transferring to the Camp Nou for a tour of the Barcelona football stadium then on to the second and final game of the tour.
The Sports Championships took place over the last couple of weeks with some very close competitions over all age groups. List of the winners:
