German visitors up for a ceilidh
Partner- school pupils given Scottish lessons
Cumnock Academy have been celebrating new achievements and saying hello to new guests.
Pupils and staff welcomed back German partner- school MarkgrafGeorg Friedrich Gymnasium at the end of May, teaching 34 pupils and five members of staff ceilidh dances and treating them to traditional haggis, neeps and tatties.
The school successfully achieved their Silver ( Rights Aware) Award last month, furthering their Rights Respecting journey.
Cumnock Academy’s Equalitea and Coffee Morning is taking place on Tuesday, June 26, in Cumnock Academy Assembly Hall from 9.30am to 11.30am.
EqualiTeas is part of programme of events from UK Parliament which gives people the chance to share, debate and celebrate what equality means to them over a cup of tea.
There is a suggested donation of £ 2 and money raised will be used to sponsor Jebbeh Kiazolu primary school in Liberia, Africa, so that children there can enjoy nutritious food and water – and education.
You will have the opportunity to see the great work pupils have been doing to promote equality and rights while enjoying a cuppa and some home baking.
On Friday, June 1, 11 pupils from Cumnock Academy Supported Learning Centre represented the school at the SportsAbility Football Festival held at Ayrshire College, Kilmarnock. A closely fought final saw one of the Cumnock teams picking up the trophy when a lastminute strike made the score 2- 1.
In more sporting news, 32 pupils from the school represented East Ayrshire in the annual Ayrshire Athletics Championships at Dam Park on June 5.
They won 16 medals in total - four gold, seven silver and five bronze in a variety of events.
