Gearing up for the big Malawi summer mission

-

The Malawi Mission is ready for take off.

Alloway Parish Church members and Alloway and Doonfoot Primary teachers are counting down the days until a lifetime trip to the African country. The crew will carry out vital work in Malawi between July 3 and 18.

And Alloway minister Rev Neil McNaught will look after 1.119 pupils at Bandawe Primary while their teachers get lessons.

The primary will be the main focus of the trip, which is the partner school of Alloway and Doonfoot.

The Scottish teachers aim to give the Bandawe staff lessons in English teaching, numeracy and practical science.

And the church will host a holiday club called Pyramid Rock based on the Bible story of Joseph.

The children will be treated to a decent square meal every day.

Alloway Parish Church family and schools worker Julie Griffiths said: “We have been blessed to receive the support of the whole community and have raised significant sums of money.”

Julie and the team are looking forward to presenting the kids with toys including skipping ropes, footballs, rounders’ bats and so on.

She said: “We are excited that each team members feels that special joy when we see a child smile, when we see them at play, when we see them with nothing, yet in their eyes there is still hope.”

The 19- strong team will visit churches, orphan care centres and clinics.

Julie said the support has been “overwhelming.”
