TENNIS

It took several attempts to get enough players together at the same time to run the Coylton Tennis Club boys doubles tournament.

But no matter which day in June it ended up on, this year the weather would have been fine.

After several duels in the sun, Gregor Morris and Callum McNae emerged as winners, with Iain Stevenson and last year’s winner Aidan Halpin runners- up.

HORSE RACING

A busy weekend is in store at Ayr Racecourse with the double header of a Noughties Night on Friday and Saturday’s Raceday.

There are seven on Friday with the opener a one mile two furlong handicap for amateur riders where the competent young jockey Brice Lynn takes the mount on Archipelig­o for Iain Jardine.

Last year’s winner Haymarket goes again for trainer Mike Smith and jockey Carol Bartley.

The evening’s feature is a Class 3 six furlong handicap at 8.10pm in which recent course winner Muscika is likely to line up for trainer David O’Meara and could face Jim Goldie’s Primo’s Comet who won last time out at Newcastle. Saturday’s meeting carries £ 170,000 in prize- money and is headlined by the £ 50,000 Scottish

Sun/ British Stallion Studs EBF Land O’Burns Fillies Stakes, Listed Race over five furlongs.

This race has been won over the years by a host of lightening quick fillies including Airwave ( 2004),

Look Busy ( 2008), Margot Did ( 2011) and Marsha ( 2016) who went on to win the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York and fetched a record breaking £ 6,300,000 at the sales last December.

There’s a brand new addition to the card this year in the £ 40,000 Scottish Sun Handicap, a Class 2 over one mile five furlongs.

There is also a £ 30,000 Class 2 mile handicap for the Johnstone Rosebowl.
