‘ Heartbreak’at loss of Ayr shop

-

A High Street store has shut down suddenly in another blow to Ayr town centre.

Bodycare, which has been operating for 21 years, closed on Saturday with the loss of six jobs.

A staff member said: “It is heartbreaking. We are very sad.

“We have a great team here. People have been coming in with lovely messages. We have had great regulars over the years. But if you don’t use us you lose us.

“We have been here for 21 years. The town was buzzing when we first started out.”

The shop was tucked away in Hope Street in the shadow of the former Clydesdale Bank. Its lack of a prominent position in the High Street may have added to its trading woes.

The nearest Bodycare is now in Irvine.

Passing shoppers stopped to read a sign outside the store announcing the closure last week.

The empty premises will join the long list of other abandoned units , including BHS.

Chain Bodycare sells toiletries, perfume and make- up. Other stores around Scotland include East Kilbride, Paisley, Motherwell, Dumfries, Falkirk, Livingston and Greenock.

Another recent casualty of the town was Homebase at the Heathfield Retail Park.

It finally shut its doors on Sunday. Poundworld in the retail park is currently having a closing down sale. Carpetright and Maplin have also bowed out.
