Thug attacked Girvan couple

-

A violent thug broke a man’s cheek in a Girvan street.

Kieran Anderson asked stranger Joe Wallace, 60, for a cigarette before attacking him in broad daylight.

Anderson, 22, who has a record for violence was jailed at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Sheriff Carole Cunninghame described it as an “unprovoked attack”.

The court heard Anderson punched Mr Wallace’s head and kicked him when he fell to the ground on Piedmont Road.

Depute fiscal Jason Bell said Anderson asked Mr Wallace for a cigarette at 12.50pm in the afternoon.

The complainer replied that he did not smoke and went into a shop.

When he emerged Anderson began to follow him. Neighbours were alerted to a disturbance. Mr Bell said: “At that point the accused punched the complainer twice to the head. He fell to the ground. He was kicked once to the head and once to the body.

“The complainer got to his feet and told the accused he was a 60- year- old man and asked ‘ what was this all about?’.”

Mr Wallace, who was bleeding from a wound to this head, went home to his wife Eileen.

Anderson coldly shoved the frantic woman to the ground.

Police were phoned and chilling CCTV footage showed him tailing Mr Wallace.

Mr Wallace had a fractured cheekbone and cut to the forehead.

Anderson pled guilty to assaulting Mr Wallace and causing severe injury on September 3.

He also admitted pushing Mrs Wallace to the ground to her injury.

Lawyer Euan Cameron said Anderson’s actions showed a total “loss of control”.

He said the labourer has e x p r e s s e d “s u b s t a n t i a l d e g r e e s o f r e m o r s e ”. Sheriff Carole Cunningham told Anderson Mr Wallace was “significantly injured physically by your attack on him”.

She added: “Kicking someone on the head, a vulnerable part of their body, is very serious.”

She pointed out that Mr and Mrs Wallace were affected physically and emotionally by the attack.

Referring to his record, she said he committed an assault in 2014.

She added: “Here we are again. In September last year you assaulted people in the community. This court has to have regard to public safety.”

Anderson, of Dalyrmple Street, Girvan, was jailed for 18 months.

A Territorial Army soldier has been suspended after downloading child abuse images.

Graham Murray, 33, downloaded more than 2000 files depicting animal sadism and horrific child sex abuse.

He was a corporal at the Army Reserve base at Chalmers Road, Ayr, but was suspended after being sentenced at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

A shocked source said Murray had served in Afghanistan as a corporal.

As well as child abuse he looked at pictures of sexual activity with animals.

An Army spokeswoman said: “Cpl Murray is currently suspended pending administrative action, which can lead to penalties up to and including discharge from the Army Reserve.”

A source told the Post: “We always thought he was a bit strange but this
