-

Ayr Central Shopping Centre will be filled with family fun activities as they stage their Summer Fete to raise funds for children’s charities – Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Ayrshire’s own Whiteleys Retreat – on Saturday, June 30.

One Great Day will take place in the main square of Ayr Central from 12noon until 4pm. There will be a variety of family fun activities including children’s characters, face painting and balloon modellers There’ll also be live music, funfair- style side stalls, a bake sale, a virtual Ayr to Arran rowing challenge and a chance to splat the centre’s store managers as who will be locked in wet sponge stocks.

One Great Day aims to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital, the UK centre for children’s medicine, enabling the hospital to pioneer new treatments and cures for childhood illnesses.

The day will also raise funds for Whiteleys Retreat, the local follow- on charity from # BUYMSH, which is developing the new facility at Whitleleys Farm in Alloway to provide Ayrshire holidays for children and young people – and their families – suffering with cancer and other life altering illnesses in the UK.

George Reader, Ayr Central centre manager, said: “One Great Day is about community engagement and raising money for great causes, but it is also a fantastic opportunity for families across Ayrshire to get together and enjoy a fun day out. Hosting an event like this gives us the chance to give something back to support the wonderful work going on at Whiteleys Retreat and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

“One Great Day was established in 2014 and has so far raised over £ 300,000 for hundreds of different children’s charities.”

Maxine Allan, CEO at Whiteleys Retreat, said: “We are delighted to be once again involved this year with One Great Day at Ayr Central.

“We look forward to welcoming families for a fun- filled action- packed day in raising much- needed funds to help us open Whiteleys Retreat this summer to provide short therapeutic breaks for children, young people and their families with cancer and life altering illnesses.

“We are relying entirely on donations to develop and run the facility and we can’t thank everyone enough for their fantastic efforts. ”
