The juvenile section of Ayr Orange Lodge no. 134 will parade through Ayr on Saturday morning.

It will be led by the Ulster Accordian Band prior to attending the annual demonstration of the newly- formed County Grand Lodge of Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Argyllshire which is being held this year at Drongan.

It will be a proud Ayr contingent who joined other juvenile sections - for they won the Ayrshire and District Lodges Shield for Bible reading. It will be carried by Chaplain Catherine Glass from the new lodge in Limekiln Road.

An idea for keeping children amused borrowed from Toronto, Canada, has been adopted in principle by Ayr Parks Committee.

The convenor, Police Judge Joseph Glendinning, told the committee that on a visit to Canada he had been so impressed by the miniature helter- skelters in all the parks that he had taken photographs of them. It emerged the Canadians knew them as “snakes.” Inquiries had been made of manufacturers in the UK, but none were willing to make one. Judge Glendinning said: “If we succeed it’ll be the first in Britain.”

By kind permission of Mr Green, Mr Anderson, the energetic manager of Greens Picturedome, Ayr, has again been on the warpath, this time in a quest for a piano for Carrick House Red Cross Hospital. A whist drive and dance was organised through the courtesy of the Rev J V Hammond.

Raffle winners were: Miss Papple, Miss Bridges, Miss Drinnan. Gents were Sergeant Gulliksen, Miss Sillars ( played as gent), and Mr Chisholm. The company then adjourned to the Union Jack Club where dancing was indulged to the early hours.
