All set for a summer picnic

-

It’s hard to beat a picnic on a summer’s day.

And there are some fantastic hotspots around the region where you can pick a lovely spot to sit down and eat.

From the stunning beaches in Ayr, Troon, Barassie, Irvine, Saltcoats and Largs, you are spoiled for choice.

Make a date for Thursday, August 9 for Picnic in the Park in Kilwinning.

The event was first held last year, and while much of the event is free to attend there are inflatables and kids rides for which low cost wristbands are sold. There will be music on the day and plenty of entertainment to enjoy.

And it doesn’t take more than a picnic basket, a few food items, and help from your family to organise your very own fun day out.

Choose an appropriate location – the park, or outside on the front lawn works out just fine. Handy snacks include:

Carrot, cucumber, red pepper sticks Cooked cocktail sausages

Hard boiled eggs

Mini pork pies

Bread sticks or chopped up pitta Cherry tomatoes

Cartons of juice, or drinks bottles topped up with water

The picnic doesn’t have to cost a lot and it can keep the youngsters going until they go home for tea.

Take kitchen roll and wet wipes, for easy clearing up and for endless sticky fingers.

And always pack a thermos of hot water, small screw top jar of milk, sugar, tea bags or coffee and a teaspoon or two.

And for young travellers, take lots of activities to keep them occupied from a football to games or small fishing nets.
