Chance to star at youth theatre

East Ayrshire Youth Theatre is running a fantastic event for aspiring young stage stars at the Palace Theatre and Grand Hall Complex during the school summer holidays.

Performers of all abilities can come along and learn about musical theatre during this two- week long summer school which promises an inspiring journey packed full of creative activities.

Youngsters aged eight to 18 will be taken through an intensive rehearsal schedule where they will learn songs from hit musicals, scripted pieces of theatre, develop vocal skills and choreograph dance routines, with the fortnight culminating in a one- off, live Musical Extravaganza show that will take place at the Palace Theatre on Friday, August 3, at 6.30pm.

Students will be working with professional musical and theatre directors on show stopping musical numbers and choreography from the most current musicals on the West End and Broadway, including Little Shop of Horrors, Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar, 13, The Greatest Showman and Sister Act.

The summer school runs from Monday, July 23, to Friday, August 3, from 9.30am to 4pm ( excluding weekends) and no audition is necessary.

■ East Ayrshire Leisure is also offering a week- long performing arts summer school in August at Cumnock Town Hall.

Again open to all abilities from ages eight to 18, and with no audition necessary, these sessions are based on the bright lights of Broadway and the finest songs from the West End stage.

This will be a creative week of singing, dancing and performing big numbers from some of the West End’s greatest musicals, culminating in a performance for friends and family.

Working with director and choreographer Michaella Mullen, as well as a professional dance instructor, students will learn show- stopping musical numbers and choreography from shows including Matilda, The Greatest Showman and Hairspray.

This is a week of musical theatre that is not to be missed and anyone with a passion for singing and musical theatre will love it!

Cumnock Town Hall’s A Musical Extravaganza runs from Monday, August 6, to Saturday, August 11, from 9.30am to 4pm, with the final performance event on the Saturday at 4pm.
