Gavin and Grant on tours of duty

-

Ayrodynamic member Gavin Kelly, of Coylton, took on The Lakesman Triathlon, a full distance race based in Keswick.

The race began with a 2.4 mile swim in the Derwent water before a 112mile cycle taking in the Solway Coast and finishing with a 26.2 mile marathon.

Conditions were perfect for the long day and despite battling a stomach bug that almost forced Gavin not to start the race, he battled through and crossed the line in an impressive 12 hours and 3 mins.

Elsewhere, Ayr’s Grant Young battled blistering hot conditions in France to race strongly in the Beziers Sprint Triathlon.

The 750m river swim, which incorporated an “Australian exit” ( swim 1- lap before exiting the water and running to the start to swim another lap) was followed by a 20km cycle in quiet country roads.

Grant put in a sterling performance on the bike to post the 31st fastest bike split of the day. The 5km run was a hot one along the Canal de Midi but Grant held on to win his age group and bring home the bling in 1.26.

Back home, there was a great turnout for the first open water 750m swim Time- Trial of the season.

Troon’s Katherine Self led the pack home in 10: 44 with David Auchie hot on her toes in 10: 49.

Next in was Loran Todd 11: 14; Kenny Girvan 11: 26; Tom McKinstray 11: 40; Charlie Martin 11: 44; John Strawhorn 12: 18; Emma Brown 12: 44; Gordon Fraser 12: 51; Tommy Turner 13: 03; Scott Russell 13: 14; Alice Vernon 14: 49; Lorna Sloan 15: 31; Iain Ferguson 15: 43; Chris Figgins 15: 50; Karen Gourlay 16: 09; Katrina Livingstone 16: 26; Andrew Rennie 16: 26; Fiona Connolly 19: 09.
