Prestwick in batting collapse

Champions skittled in less than 100 balls

- Stuart Wilson

R e d - f a c e d Prestwick are reeling after being skittled for only 45 in one of their heaviest defeats for years.

L a s t s e a s o n ’ s Scottish champions were humbled in just 99 deliveries as they crashed by 258 runs away to leaders Ferguslie.

The home side raced to 303- 4 in their 50 overs with Gregor Preston- Jones leading with 102.

Prestwick were never at the races in their catastrophic reply as wickets tumbled in quick succession.

Beforehand, both teams played tribute to Prestwick legend Johnny Hubbard, who died last week, aged 87.

Hubby skippered Prestwick to their first Glasgow and District League title which started the club on a long run of success.

He was still playing for the Henry Thow Oval club - always with a smile - long after he hung up his football boots.

The St Ninians XI beat Meikleriggs by four wickets at home.

David Carlyle took 4- 23 off eight overs and Fletcher Rao 2- 17 as Meikleriggs were dismissed for 128 in 39.2 overs. Joe Morrison took four catches, all off Carlyle’s bowling.

Skipper Kevin Lawler top scored with 51 as St Ninians clinched victory at 129- 6 in 35.3 overs.

The Sunday XI lost by 52 runs at home to Weirs made 232- 8 and then bowled out Prestwick for 180. Gurupreet Singh hit 42 and took three wickets, Fletcher Rao took four wickets and made 41 while Scotland U17 star Euan McBeth chipped in with 36.

The 1st XI now face three away games in four days. On Wednesday, they head to Poloc in the McCulloch Cup last eight, on Thursday, they visit Kelburne in the Rowan Cup semi- finals while on Saturday, they bid to avoid three league defeats on the trot when they take on Stirling County who beat them on the opening day of the season.

The St Ninians XI host Torrance House on Saturday.

• Ayr returned to winning ways on Saturday as they recorded a five wicket victory at home to Dumfries.

The visitors were dismissed for 112, with Anwar Haffeez taking 3- 21.

The Mc E l n e a brothers put on 42 for Ayr’s fifth wicket to steady the ship after an early wobble and Andi ( 39no) saw them over the winning line with more than half the overs to spare.

However it was a tale of woe against Stirling in the Rowan Cup quarter final as Ayr lost by 40 runs.

Chasing the home team’s impressive total of 181- 4, Ayr fell short despite 53 from Hafeez and 30 from Andi McElnea.

A d e p l e t e d Cambusdoon XI lost by five wickets at Deanpark after being skittled for 64, with only Ross Mitchell ( 18) and Andrew Pickles ( 13) reaching double figures.

This week sees Ayr face Uddingston at Cambusdoon in the Western Union and tonight ( Wednesday) they host Kelburne in the quarter final of the McCulloch Cup.

The Cambusdoon XI travel in the opposite direction as they take on Bothwell.

The Development XI travel to face Kilmarnock in the Western Cup.
