Robbie’s Troon champ

Robbie Muir ( Kilmarnock Barassie) is the new Troon Links golf champion.

He beat Sam Findlater ( Welbeck) 3& 2 in a sun- drenched final at Royal Troon on Saturday evening.

In the semi- finals, Muir beat Robbie Stewart ( Troon Portland) at the 19th while Findlater ousted Adrian Orton ( Kilmarnock Barassie) 4& 3.

Ballochmyl­e will bid to defend the Ayrshire Club Championsh­ip, for the RL Crawford Trophy, at West Kilbride on Sunday.

Calum McKirdy is the only member of last year’s winning Ballochmyl­e team.

He is joined by Craig Hamilton and Gary Holland in the 14- team competitio­n.

Winners will represent Ayrshire in the Scottish Club Championsh­ip at The Montgomery course, Kinross, on September 23.

The Ayrshire Fourball Championsh­ip has reached the quarter- final stage with ties due by July 29.

Henry Thomson ( Irvine) was highest placed Ayrshire player in the Scottish Senior Men’s Open Championsh­ip at Irvine Golf Club.

Thomson finished joint 20th on 228 (+ 12), following rounds of 73, 78 and 77.

The championsh­ip was won by Ronnie Clark ( Erskine) who took the title in a three way play off after the leaders tied on 221.
