Rotary Club party to celebrate 10 years of Ayrshire Coastal Path
Ayr Rotary Club held an evening of celebration to commemorate ten years of Ayrshire Coastal Path. on saturday, June 23, almost 50 Rotarians and non- Rotarians attended the event at the Bracken Bar, Heads of Ayr. this included stakeholders, Pathfinders and special guests. Douglas Haddow gave an excellent speech and mentioned his gratitude in welcoming Dr Jimmy Begg, creator of the Coastal Path, and his wife Helen. Jimmy was presented with a copy of his very own guidebook, signed by many of those involved. He was also presented with a beautifully handcrafted oak- stave ACP clock designed by Bob gibson. Farmers and landowners along the many miles of the ACP were acknowledged for their cooperation and commitment to the path over the last ten years, originally based on a handshake, trust, and mutual goodwill. Without this, the path would have been a non- starter. Instead, the Coastal Path is now a national attraction. over the years, this goodwill has extended into additional cooperation at the Annual Rotary Beach Clean and to muchvalued, routine maintenance assistance. Douglas also gave thanks to south Ayrshire Waste Environmental trust for their regular financial support, giving special thanks to Dick Peddie of sAWEt and Chairman of sAWEt and fellow trustee, garth Foster. He then went on to thank both south and North Ayrshire Council for their support over the years and last but by no means least, Mr Haddow gave appreciation to the loyal team of Pathfinders. Douglas concluded his speech by giving thanks to the staff at Heads of Ayr Holiday Park, particularly owner David semple, for the catering. He thanked June gibson for providing the super 10thanniversary cake; Euan, Katie Nicol and Charlie steele for the photomontage and gus Iannotti for providing Prosecco for all the guests who were part of the anniversary celebrations. Here’s to the next 10 years of the ACP.
