Bags packed off to Malawi

-

Kind souls have been putting together learning starter packs for children in Malawi. Auchinleck Academy handed over 33 filled backpacks to charity Mary’s Meals – plus donations to fill several more – on the first leg of their journey to Malawi. Many children receiving Mary’s Meals do not have basic learning tools such as pencils and notepads. Each backpack contains stationery such as notepads, pens, pencils, crayons, eraser, ruler, sharpener and pencil case. Other items including a spoon, shorts or skirt, t- shirt or dress, flip- flops or sandals, towel, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and a small ball are placed in the backpack. For many children, a Mary’s Meals backpack will be the first gift they have ever received. The school are collecting donations all year round and encourage anyone to drop any items, especially backpacks, into the school office upon return after the summer holidays. Items can be cheap or second hand, and Mr Lynch and Mr Deeney will ensure they help a child in Malawi. Pictured at the handover are pupils Charlie Dunlop, Niamh Ramsay, Leigha Eaglesham gifting the bags to Cross from Mary’s Meals with Mrs Devine ( DHT and Rights Respecting School co- ordinator) and Mr Deeney ( Mary’s Meals project co- ordinator).
