It’s pandamonium at the charity races

Ayr mascot takes to the track at racecourse

- Iain Ferguson

Ayr United’s Pandamonium was one of nine mascots to line up in the Ayrshire Cancer Support Charity Mascot Race sponsored by Grants of Prestwick at Ayr Racecourse on Sunday.

But Ayr’s favourite Panda could only trail in towards the rear of the field as Cappie The Cat representing Morton FC romped away with the race. But at least Pandamonium finished in front of Nutz, the Kilmarnock mascot, who trailed in last. The mascot race was just part of a fabulous day of racing and family fun at the Argyll Holidays Family Raceday. And there’s more fun next Monday at the Parkdean Resorts Glasgow Fair Family Raceday at Ayr with seven great races plus lots of family entertainment which is all free. There is a summer beach theme which will be brought to life with some favourite mascots including Spongebob, Pirate Pete, Ariel, Beach Hula Hoop Girl, Ninja Turtle, Elsa, Anna, Spiderman, Batman and lots more. And in addition to the mascots there is lots to do with the magical mayhem show held at intervals during the afternoon, an under the sea activity castle, animal handling, owl magic, beat the goalie, kids love the races, facepainting, glitter tattoos, sand art, puppets and arts, crafts and clay. And if that’s not enough there’s even more free family fun to be had with a nemo slide, Ayrshire radio control car club, pedalo boats, water walkers and after the final race at 5.10pm a DJ will play in the Ayrshire Suite. Children under 18 go free.
