Yeast from the east takes Troon by storm

- Stephen Houston

A three- year campaign to lure a baker to Troon has finally paid off.

And enterprising Diana Parusheva reckons it will be the perfect recipe for the town.

The Bhaile craft baker will be open in Ayr Street by September 1.

Since various bakers pulled out only the Greggs chain has operated in the town.

Bulgarian Diana, 40, employs 14 staff at her Ayr bakery and is planning another at Burns Cottage.

She said: “I lived in Troon for six months and love it.

“Ayr Street has such an artisan feel and I am so happy to be expanding here.”

Three full- time and three part- time jobs will be coming to Troon.

Diana, who lives in Alloway, said: “We are hoping to have a quick turnaround and fingers crossed, we will open at the latest September 1, or maybe the week before it.”

She is setting up in the old Susan Redpath Homes and Interior shop, which went on to become the Easy Living firm for the disabled.

Donna Read has been trying to attract a baker to the town since December 2016.

Donna, acting chairman of Troon Business Association said: “We now have a great range of businesses, including butchers, a baker, fruit and veg , gift, hair and beauty, fashion, men’s store, florist, great cafes and hotels.

“Troon is back on the up and it’s wonderful to see and local support and attracting visitors will see it continue to thrive.”

She added: “When Greggs changed their business model it left Troon without a bakers, though Morrisons offers great bakery products.

“I was delighted when Diana started to message me and said Troon was being looked at as part of the expansion of the Bhaile craft bakery.”
