Pupils practise strings skills
Talented youngsters popped on a public performance last month as part of a music tuition initiative.
Pupils of Cumnock Academy and Greenmill Primary School performed a varied set on stringed instruments at New Cumnock Town Hall, exhibiting the skills they have learned as part of a programme between The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and The Prince’s Foundation at Dumfries House.
The initiative offers children specialist education in music and dance and gives the public the chance to attend shows by RCS students and local school pupils.
Kenneth Dunsmuir, executive director of The Prince’s Foundation at Dumfries House, said: “We are delighted to provide specialist tuition to school pupils and lay on excellent entertainment for the people of Ayrshire. The recent event at New Cumnock Town Hall showed many local children are growing in confidence and expertise and are now able to give performances of a very impressive standard.”
Ellen Barrie, whole class string specialist for East Ayrshire schools and cello tutor for Royal Conservatoire of Scotland at Dumfries House, added: “It has been my privilege to teach at the Dumfries House project since its inception. The children are highly motivated and engaged.
“The performance opportunities they have gained by being part of the project has enhanced their musical journey.
“We are creating not just musicians but giving them life skills they will use in the future.”
