Put down roots in blooming lovely Sorn

- Stephen Houston

This small settlement on the banks of the River Ayr is a blooming great place to live.

That’s according to the villagers and the Britain in Bloom organisation which crowned Sorn once and finalist a number of times.

The population shows no sign of shrinking and is about 350, with the help of the surrounding country folks – enough to support several shops, the Sorn Inn, school and bowling club.

One of the big two- storey early terraces with four bedrooms is up for sale.

It is in the heart of the conservation area and the pretty village retains special features such as traditional lamp standards.

While the front of this house is onto the pavement of Sorn Main Street, the rear offers plenty of space, including a driveway and detached garage.

The outstanding feature of the house is the 18 and a half feet long lounge.

The gable wall has been pared back to the stone to frame the old fireplace and stove burner.

Next door is a family room, also facing front, with feature white painted beams, while the kitchen is fully equipped and is joined to a dining area.

This area opens out, with big doors, onto the single- storey sunroom. The sunroom is more than 22- feet long and has multiple windows, double glass doors and a skylight to let the rays flood in.

Also on the ground floor is a utility area and loo under the stairs.

Upstairs are four double bedrooms with master ensuite and the bathroom.

Both upstairs toilets are fully fitted with modern units as well as being tiled.

One features a doublesized special shower, the other a shower over the bath.

Clyde Property say:

“This wonderful home offers fantastic family accommodation in a friendly, welcoming area.”

The agents on Ayr 262777 are seeking offers over £ 50 short of £ 200,000.
