Sprint championship action at Kames
Motorsports
The Guyson Scottish Sprint Championship reaches the midway point with two rounds at Kames Motorsport Complex at Muirkirk on July28/ 29.
June activities attracted big crowds to Kames and East Ayrshire Car Club are hoping enthusiasts will turn out again in force to see an outright speed event with cars ranging from modified road saloons to singleseater racing cars.
Early entries include several from south of the border and a number from Caithness.
Among the latter is the highly promising young lady from Thurso, Louise Calder, whose diminutive Jedi racing car is always a contender for top honours all over Scotland.
A sister of Heather Calder, the current British Sprint Champion, she entered her first speed hillclimb in late June and broke the Ladies Record for the Fintray course in Aberdeenshire.
Another highlight of the two- day meeting will be the ultra competitive Mazda MX5 class which usually provides a close finish and many on- the- limit performances.
Practice starts at 9.30am each day with competition runs around 1pm.

The two nations clash on the eve of The Scottish Open at Muckhart Golf Course, Dollar, this weekend.
And Gavin Craig lines up against world number one, Ben Clarke, who leads the English charge.
Gavin said: “England have a team full of fantastic players so no matter what opponent I was drawn against it was never going to be easy.
“Last year, when I captained Scotland against England we were really up against it. I believe we can give them a much better game this year as our guys have more experience now.
“I like the fact that we have home advantage first this time around.”
