Dad- of- two sent down for assault on ex

- Abi Smillie

A dad- of- two has been jailed for headbutting his ex- partner.

Alexander Sayers was put behind bars for six months after he assaulted his ex Susan Sayers by punching and headbutting her on June 8.

The 28- year- old, of Lamont Crescent in Cumnock, was said to become unwell due to his diabetes and was in a bedroom lying down when Mrs Sayers came to check on him.

Ayr Sheriff Court heard Sayers asked his wife to leave and when she did and went to join her friend in the living room, Sayers followed her and punched her.

He tried to drag her from the couch but Mrs Sayers got away and told her friend to phone the police.

When police arrived and began to lead him away in handcuffs, crazed Sayers attempted to bite one of the officers.

Defence solicitor Colin Adam described the family setup as “dysfunctional”.

Mr Adam said: “The house was in a state of chaos at the time.

“They also had another couple staying there.

“He was suffering from diabetes but also self induced by taking a cocktail of drugs.

“He was feeling rather unwell – it would appear he was trying to sleep it off.

“He would have it that she was the one who started the physical act and punched him.

“He reacted poorly and accepts that. The court heard the couple had been in a relationship for six years and married for four but had now separated with Mrs Sayers entering a new relationship.

Mr Adam continued: “He indicates to me that the relationship is now at an end. It would appear his wife has now moved on and she’s engaged to the man she had an affair with.”

Sheriff John Montgomery asked: “How does that work? I thought they were married.”

Turning his attention to Sayers, the sheriff said: “You’ve got a three and a bit page of previous convictions.

“You’ve got convictions for assault and domestic behaviour.

“You’ve been placed on numerous community payback orders and that doesn’t seem to have stopped you – custody is now the only option.”

Sayers pled guilty to assaulting his partner Susan Sayers by punching her on the body and headbutting her on the head.

He also assaulted a custody support officer and attempted to bite him on the body.

Sayers was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
