Belleisle youngster wins Ayrshire Boys
Sean Addie ( Ayr Belleisle) kept up his impressive season by winning the Ayrshire Boys’ Championship at Ardeer.
Addie, who won the Tam O’Shanter Trophy over his home course in June, fired rounds of 73 and 71 for a level par 144 to take the title by four shots from his playing partner Cameron Johnstone ( Troon Welbeck).
Ew an Milligan ( Kilmarnock Barassie) secured the third leading scratch spot on 152, with rounds of 80 and 72, pipping Euan Ferguson ( Turnberry) in fourth by virtue of the better second round as Ferguson’s rounds were 79 and 73.
Entry numbers were boosted with the removal of the handicap limit, and it was competitors from Irvine Golf Club who dominated the net prize list.
Top spot was won by 12 handicapper Elliot O’Brien ( Irvine) who followed a morning round of 72 with a superb closing round of 62 for a net total of 134 for a four shot winning margin.
The second best net score was posted by 21 handicapper Jamie McCormack, also of Irvine GC, who followed a morning round 72 with 66 for a total of 138.
Third net, by virtue of the best second round, went to Callum Black ( Irvine), playing off 21, who had scores of 76 and 65 for 141.
That gave him third place by virtue of the best second round, just ahead of John Kelly ( Ayr Seafield) who, playing off seven, carded 72 and 69.
The best eight scratch scores qualified for the Ayrshire Boys’ Matchplay Championship at Prestwick Golf Club from Tuesday to Thursday this week.
Ties are: Addie v O’Brien; Ross McDonald ( Kilmarnock Barassie) v Jamie McKinnon ( Caprington); Ewan Milligan ( Kilmarnock Barassie) v Kyle McCaig ( West Kilbride); Euan Ferguson ( Turnberry) v Kelly.
•Paul Denim ( Loudoun) and Gary Steele ( Brunston Castle) will meet in the final of the Ayrshire Champion of Champions Trophy at Royal Troon on Friday.
Steele qualified by virtue of a walkover while Denim beat John Rushbury ( Rowallan Castle) by one hole.
Friday’s final tees off at 5pm.
● Jim Johnston ( Ayr Belleisle) remains clear leader of the Ayrshire Order of Merit, for the Doc Thom Salver, after reaching the quarterfinals of the Scottish Amateur Championship at Blairgowrie.
Sandy Buchanan ( Prestwick St Nicholas) remains in second place while Scott Brown ( Prestwick St Cuthbert) moved into third after winning the Rowallan Castle Open.
The next counting event is the Troon St Meddans Open on Saturday.
