- Gary Fanning

A woman was fighting for her life this week after she plunged 30 feet from a balcony of a top- floor flat in Ayr.

The 38- year- old was rushed to Ayr Hospital following the horror fall at 7 Philip Square on Sunday about 2.45am.

Police and two ambulances attended the scene in the early hours of the morning.

It is understood officers were at the block of flats until 6am before removing police tape that had been erected there.

One resident told the Post that the woman was unconscious and suffered broken bones, rib damage and serious head injuries.

He said the woman had been later moved to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, but police could not confirm this.

The neighbour added: “Her family say she has two broken vertebrae and all her ribs are broken. She suffered bleeding on the brain and a blood clot.

“She is still unconscious.” The victim fell from the top floor of a four- storey block that overlooks King Street.

Another neighbour said: “I was woken by the flashing of blue lights.

“I had no idea that anything had happened. There was no disturbance or noise beforehand.

“Police and forensic teams were on site first thing on Sunday and stayed there almost all day.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 2.45am on Sunday, August, 12, police were called after a 38- year- old woman was found seriously injured outside a block of flats in Philip Square, Ayr.

“She was taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital where medical staff describe her condition as serious.

“At this time there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, however, enquiries are continuing.”
