Chip yob kicked a hungry seagull

- Stephen Houston

A vile human was seen kicking a seagull as it gorged itstelf on tasty chips.

the big bird was scoffing the chips close to the Gaiety theatre in Ayr.

A grainy image of the pointless attack has only now emerged.

the man is wearing what looks like a white short sleeved shirt, black trousers and white training shoes.

He is seen lifting his right leg back and then battering the chip- loving gull.

Any kick to a creature like this would have left it in a very painful condition or at worst cause it to die from internal injuries.

the chips had already been dropped on the ground close to the junction of Carrick street and Boswell Park and it is not been regarded as a case where the gull actually stole the grub.

Ironically the bird’s attacker was also eating his own portion of takeway food.

the grainy image looks to have been taken from mobile phone footage.

It appears to be right outside a late night food takeaway.

the bird- brained incident took place on saturday July 28 and only yesterday ( tuesday) was it able to be made public.

An undercover inspector from the charity’s special investigations unit has been working on the case.

He said: “We are being assisted by Police scotland in our investigation and we would like to trace the individual involved.

“I would urge anyone who recognises him to get in touch.

“Any information given to our animal helpline is treated confidentially and can be given nonymously.

“Recently we have been made aware of a number of incidents involving attacks on seagulls and would like to remind the

public that gulls, like all other birds, are protected by law.

“We’d encourage the public to clear up any rubbish as gulls are attracted to it as they look for food.”

Anyone who thinks they know the lout or remember him from that saturday should call the scottish sPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.

Ayr is in the middle of a seagull crisis at the moment with some of them attacking people including a prominent lawyer who had to fight off the attack using a rolled up copy of the Ayrshire Post.

He was pecked on the top of his head in Burns statue square and the attack drew blood.
