Ramblers head for Munro
Rotary welcome Silvio
On Sunday, August 19, Ayr & District Rambling Club will offer two walks.
The more strenuous walk involves the ascent of the Munro Ben Vorlich, one of the “Arrochar Alps”.
The 8.5- mile route starts at the Inveruglas car park at Loch Lomond and follows the road towards Loch Sloy before heading up the western slopes of Ben Vorlich.
The walk has a total ascent of 945 metres and, from the summit, there should be excellent views of all the surrounding hills. The return will be by the same route. For more details, contact David Allison on 01292 739529.
The easier option is a leisurely nine- mile walk in and around Mugdock Country Park. The route starts from the Visitor Centre through the park past Mugdock Loch, then leaves the park to walk around the Mugdock and Craigmaddie reservoirs.
From there, the walk joins the West Highland Way, and passes Craigallan Loch before returning to the park along the John Muir Way. On returning to the park, there is the option of going to have a look at Mugdock Castle, adding about 1 ¼ miles to the walk. For more details, contact Stephen Cole on 01292 737465.
For both walks, please meet at the Millbrae car park in Ayr at 8.50 am. Ayr Rotary club is delighted to welcome Silvio Galli as their newest member.
Silvio was born and brought up in Ayr where he is an ice- cream parlour and chocolaterie proprietor. He and his wife, Linda, have two children, Natasha and Michael.
Silvio was pleasantly surprised by the informality and camaraderie at the club meetings.
He admires the charitable work of the club and is looking forward to rewarding involvement in community projects run by the club.
The club is always keen to welcome prospective members and useful information can found by v i s i t i n g h t t p s : / / rotaryclubofayr. org/
