Loo have got to be kidding us on

- Stuart Wilson

Thousands of revellers were caught short on Prestwick’s biggest day of the year – after the town’s public toilets were SHUT.

Furious punters queued for temporary portaloos in scenes labelled “embarassing” by one of the town’s councillors.

An emergency joiner was forced to break down the locked toilet doors following the council blunder.

The authority’s chief executive, Eileen Howat, is now among those demanding answers into the cock- up, the Post has learned.

Angry prom- goers took to Facebook to voice their disgust at finding the loos shut for the first two hours of the bash. Marie Hawthorn said: “Ayr gets it all... Prestwick is left to rot. “What an absolutely bunch.”

Jennifer Wilson added: “These toilets should be open every day especially throughout the summer season. Not a lot to ask or respect.

“How many resorts do you visit that do not have toilet facilities?”

Council bosses invested £ 20,000 in the Links Road loos late last year as part of an overhaul to the facilities.

Prestwick Tory Hugh Hunter said: “It would be fair to say lessons must be learned from what was a very embarassing episode on Saturday.”

A council spokesman said: “The public toilets at the esplanade in Prestwick should be open daily from 10am- 9pm but due to an oversight they were not opened until lunchtime on Saturday 11th.

“There were portable toilets nearby, however we apologise to anyone who was looking to use the facilities that morning.”
