Talk of the town from our social media

-

The introduction of gull- proof bins by South Ayrshire Council has proved the hot topic of the week on our social media channels.

Gemma Jones said: “The seagulls really are aggressive “beasts”!

I live in the town centre and they are a menace.

South Ayrshire Council need to hire a falcon or hawk to discourage them from nesting and attacking bins, birds, animals and people in town.

My day starts at 4am to a cacophony of squawks, we have tried tonnes of humane ways to stop them nesting on our flat roof and they keep coming back.”

Dave Grant agreed: “The council need to hire a hawk for a few days to chase them away from the town centre like they did at the racecourse.”

Morag Kilbride said: “A few times I’ve been sitting in the gardens at Wellington Square and the amount of visitors feeding them is horrendous.

“Half the food from the Wellington must get thrown to them. It’s ridiculous.”

Lorna McCluskie said: “The seagulls are getting really aggressive.

“I was walking my dog along the river when it swooped down on me and I had to duck down.

“It then did it again and tried to poo on my dog. They are a nuisance.”

But Garth Westland said: “They’re gulls. It’s the coast! They’re supposed to be here!

“I agree they are a pain but they’re hardly invaders.”

And Shaz Baa added: “I don’t see any harm in feeding the odd crust chip ends after all there are seagulls and it’s where they live.

“They’re only doing what’s natural plus there’s other birds to, it’s the humans ( not all) that are more messy in and on the beach.”

Meanwhile, the ongoing saga at Ayr’s Station Hotel continues to stir up debate.

Sylvia Collie said: “It’s a danger and a disgrace.

“Also sitting across from it is Holmston house which is another eyesore.

“This council should hang their heads in shame they are the most useless bunch ever.”

Fiona Wallace said: “I really hope Scotrail, Transport Scotland, SAC and everyone else involved in transport ensure we do not lose our train station.

“That would be the final nail in the coffin for Ayr.”

Scott Dempsey said: “Why they never made it the new council offices is a joke.

“Could have put the housing, job centre a nd council offices in the one building then sold off the land at Wallace town for residential development to private investors recouping some of the cost.”
