Euan sinks a treble

Euan Ferguson ( Turnberry) scored a historic hat- trick in the Ayrshire Boys’ Matchplay Championsh­ip when he beat strokeplay champion Sean Addie ( Ayr Belleisle) in the final at Prestwick Golf Club.

Ferguson won a keenly contested final 3& 2 to seal his treble and receive the trophy from Prestwick captain Keith Macintosh.

In the semi- finals, Ferguson beat Ewan Milligan ( Kilmarnock Barassie) at the 20th while Addie beat Ross McDonald ( Kilmarnock Barassie) by one hole.

Milligan aced the 195 yard 11th hole during his first- round tie.

Paul Denim ( Loudoun) has won the Ayrshire Champion of Champions Trophy for the first time.

He beat Gary Steele ( Brunston Castle) by one hole in a thrilling final at Royal Troon last Friday.

The key moment came at the 15th when Steele went out of bounds and conceded which allowed Denim to regain his advantage.

The next three holes were halved allowing Denim to take the title by the closest of margins.

Troon Ladies stars Connie Jaffrey and Hazel McGarvie helped Scotland win the Women’s Home Internatio­nals for the first time since 2010.

The Scots beat England and Ireland on a countback to clinch the title at Ballybunio­n Golf Club.

Ayr Belleisle duo Ruben Lindsay and Jack Broun were in the Scotland boys’ team which avoided the wooden spoon at the Home Internatio­nals at Royal Dornoch when they beat Wales 11- 4 in their final match.

England won the series after an 8- 7 win over Ireland on the final day.

Robbie Muir will play Callum Murray ( West Kilbride) in the semi- finals of the Ayrshire Junior League’s Champion of Champions Trophy.

Adam Carballo ( Prestwick St Cuthbert) receives a bye into the final after Cameron Johnstone ( Troon Welbeck) conceded his semi due to impending educationa­l commitment­s which will mean he will not be available for the remainder of the competitio­n.

Quarter- final results in the Under 16 Knockout Trophy were: Carpington 0, Loudoun 4; Kilmarnock Barassie 3, Prestwick St Cuthbert 1; Irvine 3.5, Troon Welbeck 0.5; West Kilbride 1.5, Ayr Belleisle 2.5.

Semi- finals : Kilmarnock Barassie v Loudoun; Irvine v Ayr Belleisle.

Wallace Thornton Trophy, semifinals: Ayr Belleisle v Ballochmyl­e; West Kilbride v Kilmarnock Barassie.

In the Ayrshire Junior League Championsh­ip, Kilmarnock ( Barassie) and Ayr Belleisle are setting the pace in the two sections.

The competitio­n finals will be held at Caprington on September 9 and 16.

Semi- final ties in the Ayrshire Handicap League Championsh­ip are: Beith v Moorpark; Ballochmyl­e v Rowallan Castle. Ties due by September 2.

Ayr Neptune pair Keith McKenzie and Colin Yair are through to the final of the Ayrshire Fourball Championsh­ip after beating Thomas Freer and Gerry Reid ( Alton) by one hole.

They await the winner of the second semi between Ayr Dalmilling and Brunston Castle.
