Girvan

The Girvan Ladies played their Kintyre Flag competitio­n on 8th. August which brought in Wilma McDade ( 17) 68 as winner with Roz McCulloch ( 9) 71 runner- up with the lowest gross score of the round.

Roz was followed by Catharine McCrindle ( 23) 74, Elinor Heggie ( 12) 76, with Isobel Kyle and Veronica Hamilton both ( 24) 77.

Meanwhile on August 5 the Girvan gents competed for the Walter Linton Trophy which commemorat­es a Girvan champion golfer who was also adept at extracting teeth. The winner was Stuart White ( 4) 59 who also had the lowest gross score, followed by Andy MacFarlane ( 12) 62, Alec Dunlop ( 9) 62 and Stevie Johnston ( 6) 62. There were six contestant­s on nett 63.

Over At Turnberry The Richmond Cup was won by M. Brown ( 19) 38 Stableford points followed by A. McDuff ( 11) 37 points, J. Broadfoot ( 5) 37 points S. Stamper

(+ 1) 37 points and Darren Bye ( 6) 37 points.

The Wednesday Medal played on August 8, Eddie Irvin came in with the winning score of ( 5) 69 on the Ailsa followed by Peter Keenan ( 1) 71 Ailsa, C. McVicar ( 6) 71 Ailsa, Alan Connor ( 3) 71 Ailsa and I. Irvine ( 6) 71 Bruce.

The final of the Whitehorse Cup takes place this Friday, August 17 at 7: 30pm.

DARTS

Ian Welsh Cup ( 301 double in/ double out): Steve Robertson beat George Collumb Snr in the final. The committee would like to thank Ian of the Anchor Bar for hosting the competitio­n.

RUNNING

Troon Tortoise runner Bruce Walker has been touring the Highlands and Islands of Scotland taking part in the Hebridian 3 Half Marathon Series. There are five events in the series and each runners best three times are combined to give an overall time. 89 runners completed the series and Bruce finished in a fantastic 29th place. All five of the events were run in hot conditions and Bruce’s times were: Stornoway 1.57.45; Benbecula 1.53.04; Skye 1.53.52; Barra 2.01.50; Harris 2.03.08

• Troon runners were in action at the Dundonald 10k which is part of the Dundonald Highland Games last Wednesday. The undulating course takes runners out to Symington and back. There were great times put in on such a tough course with Craig Rankin first finished from Troon. First lady was Sharon McNicol. Full times were as follows: Craig Rankin 41.41; Fraser McPhail 42.29; John McCabe 44.16; Sharon McNicol 46.17; Anne Noble 48.58; Steve Burnside 49.20; Nikki Craig 51.33; Moira Connell 52.25; Marion Sloan; 54.26; Gordon McBain 54.26; Fiona Gibson 57.00; Judith Godden 57.29; Joan McIntoch 57.37; Karen McLaughlan 57.39; Fiona Davis 59.01.

• The previous night saw the August 5k. On a nice night there were some strong performanc­es put in from all runners. Liam Convery finished first in a time of 20.11.
