It’s Dalgleish at the double on Ayr track

Trainer Keith strikes on the racecourse’s Monday card

- Iain Ferguson

Keith Dalgleish is a trainer in top form after enduring a lean spell earlier in the year and at Ayr on Monday he took his year’s tally on the Flat to 39 with a first and last race double.

The highly impressive Beechwood Ella, a 7- 1 chance, having only her second run got up to win by a neck from Freed From Desire to win the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes run over 7f under a fine ride from Tony Hamilton.

This race featured the $ 1 million filly Mistress Of Love who was making her racecourse debut.

Trained by Karl Burke, she looked very green and could only finish fifth after missing the break.

In the final race, a 1m 2f handicap, Keith won with Qasr, who showed a lot of determination under Joe Fanning to hold on to win by a neck from French Resistance.

That win also signalled a double for jockey Fanning who had an armchair ride on Curly Girl, trained in Ireland by John James Feane, to win Division One of the 7f handicap.

The most exciting race of the afternoon was the Western House Hotel Handicap and in a bunch finish the Jim Goldie trained Eternalist ( 8- 1) ridden by Harrison Shaw, prevailed by a head from Kibaar with Our Place in Loule a further neck back in third.

The feature race of the day, the Ayrshire Cancer Support James Bond Ball Handicap over 1m 2f, was won by course specialist King’s Gift, trained by Michael Dods and ridden by Callum Rodriguez.

Saturday night’s QTS Ladies Night was lit up by a fine ride from a young rider when Phil Dennis secured victory for the Noel Wilson trained Longroom in the feature, the QTS Ladies Night Grand Spectacular Handicap.

Knowing he was on a horse that loved running from the front, Phil made all to hold off My Name Is Rio.

There were doubles on the night for jockeys Connor Beasley and Jamie Gormley.

The first named rode Kolussus to victory in the QTS In The Community EBF Novice Stakes over six furlongs and followed that by coming with a late run on Zorovan to win the Gas Sure & James Frew Handicap.

Jamie rode his double on Yes You, who just got up to touch off Duncan Of Scotland in the QTS Investors In Sport Handicap, and Royal Regent in the QTS Training Handicap.

Yes You followed up with another win under Gormley on Monday in the Johnnie and Archie Montgomerie Memorial Handicap.
