The bone weakening condition osteoporos­is is the subject of a free informatio­n event this afternoon ( Wednesday) at 2pm- 3.30pm.

It’s being held in the South Beach Hotel and an array of experts are on hand. Crosshouse consultant Dr Scott Blackwell speaks on disease management, NHS Ayrshire physio Alison Howie on exercise and falls prevention, and Mayrine Fraser, Specialist Nurse for the National Osteoporos­is Society, will talk about informatio­n and support from the charity.

Troon Chess Club are looking for new members. All standards welcome with tuition given.

The first meeting of the Club will be on Wednesday August 29 and every Wednesday until May 2019.

Juniors meet at 7pm until 8pm and Adults from 7pm onwards.

Troon Friends of the Ayrshire Hospice are holding an autumn coffee morning with home- made pancakes, in Troon Old Parish Church Hall on Saturday, August 25 from 10- 12pm. Entry at the door.

Troon OIR are hosting an Afternoon at the Movies on Wednesday, August 29 at 2pm in Portland Church Hall. The film showing is “Literary and Potato Peel Society”. All welcome. £ 2 donation which covers refreshmen­ts.

A Babies and Toddlers Playgroup has resumed in St Meddan’s Church Hall on Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning from 9.30am until 11.15am. The playgroup welcomes all pre- school children.

Troon Chorus open their new session on Monday. August 27 at 7.30pm in Portland Church Hall.

There are vacancies in all sections and new members will be given a warm welcome.

The Great Troon Wall Hanging can be seen at St Ninian’s Episcopal Church on Saturday September 8 from 11am to 1pm. Some of the needlework creators of this

wonderful tapestry will be on hand to explain the finer details.
